Defending world champion Sebastien Loeb took charge of the Rally of Mexico on Saturday as his Finnish rivals Jari-Matti Latvala and Mikko Hirvonen fell victim to technical gremlins. Despite setbacks for both cars, BP Ford Abu Dhabi World Rally Team ended the second day of Rally Mexico in a strong position as the only squad with both pairings in the top five on the leaderboard. Defending world champion Sebastien Loeb snatched the Rally of Mexico lead from Jari-Matti Latvala on Saturday after setting a blistering pace on the second stage of the day. Citroen's Sebastien Loeb was heading for a repeat of his 2007 Rally Mexico win after establishing a comfortable lead of more than a minute in Saturday's second leg. In a turbulent day of competition on Rally Mexico, Chris Atkinson and Stephane Prevot grabbed second position overall aboard their Subaru Impreza WRC2007. Petter Solberg and Phil Mills however fell foul of the conditions and were forced to retire mid-way through the morning's stages.
