Mexico tried to send a pointed message to the world Wednesday that it took its fight against drug trafficking seriously. Mattel Mexico, the local arm of the world's largest toy maker, on Wednesday destroyed 175,000 lead-tainted toys taken from store shelves and factories throughout the country, just as the holiday shopping season kicks into gear. The first wave of what promises to be several waves of winter weather entered New Mexico from the west Thursday morning. The National Weather Service forecasts snow and rain at lower elevations of the state and snow in mountain regions. An oil platform leak that has spilled thousands of barrels of crude into the Gulf of Mexico could take several months to repair, state oil monopoly Petroleos Mexicanos said.
